Jnana Niketan
Institute of Philosophy and Religion
Jnana Niketan Institute of Philosophy and Religion (Hereafter Jnana Niketan) was established on 6th August 2021 by a decree of the Superior General of the Little Flower congregation to meet the academic needs of the formation of seminarians belonging to the Little Flower Congregation.
The present Jnana Niketan has a history spanning over six decades. It was established in 1960 as Little Flower Study House and was officially inaugurated on 12th March 1961. It was constituted to Major Seminary on 4th June 1962 to teach Philosophy and Religion to the students of the Little Flower Congregation. The Seminary expanded its scope in 2015 to accommodate seminarians from diverse dioceses and congregations. A modern academic building, completed in 2019, now serves as the central hub for academic and administrative functions.
It was a signifiant milestone in the history of the Institute when the Pontifical Dicastery of Culture and Education elevated Jnana Niketan to the status of an Ecclesiastical Higher Education Institution on September 25, 2023. This recognition formalized the institute’s affiliation with the Philosophy Faculty of Jnana Deepa Institute of Philosophy and Theology, Pune, and granted approval to its Statutes, in accordance with the Dicastery’s guidelines.
